TIMBER

I'm always conflicted at this time of the year. Months of spending endless hours painting in my studio while being warmed by the wood stove must be put on hold. My focus is forced to shift outdoors; taking care of the numerous chores associated with living in the woods when spring arrives. The most time consuming task is harvesting firewood for the next winter heating season. A chore that can't be ignored if I expect to enjoy the warmth of the wood stove next winter. Harvesting 5 cords of firewood each year is physically demanding and extremely time consuming. However heating our home with firewood creates a sense of independence that is emotionally rewarding. Time for painting will return, as it does every year.
